The U.S. Navy SEALs: America’s Maritime Special Operations Force
The Navy SEALs are the United States Navy’s premier special operations force, forged to operate in every domain – sea, air, and land – from which their name is derived. These elite warriors are trained for small-unit, high-impact missions across the most challenging environments, including maritime, jungle, urban, arctic, desert, and mountainous terrain. Their operations often involve counter-terrorism, direct action, special reconnaissance, and hostage rescue.
Formed in January 1962 under President John F. Kennedy, the SEALs were created to conduct unconventional warfare during a time of rising global conflict and increasing demands for agile, specialized forces. Since then, they have built a legacy of unmatched courage, relentless dedication, and absolute loyalty to their nation and teammates.
The U.S. Navy Seal Team Logo is the Special Warfare insignia, more commonly known as the “SEAL Trident” – and affectionately nicknamed “The Budweiser” within the Navy community – is the official emblem of the SEAL. It is awarded only to those who complete the grueling Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL, or BUD/S training. Only those who complete all SEAL Qualification Training earn the right to stand among the Navy’s most elite. The Trident symbolizes a warrior forged by hardship, tested by fire, and committed to duty, honor, and country.
