This is My Flag — A Tribute to the Stars and Stripes
The American flag, known with reverence as the Stars and Stripes, is more than a banner of fabric. It is the living emblem of a nation built on courage, sacrifice, and unyielding belief in liberty. It is the banner of freedom, the emblem of unity, and the sacred trust of generations who have carried its meaning forward throughout our history.
Its thirteen stripes – seven red and six white – pay tribute to the 13 original colonies that declared independence and stood against tyranny. From those humble beginnings rose a Republic, forged through hardship and defended through generations.
In a field of blue, the Union, fifty stars shine together. Each star represents a sovereign state, yet together they form one common purpose – indivisible, bound by shared principles of unity, a common destiny and perseverance.
The colors themselves were not chosen lightly and carry a solemn meaning:
Red embodies valor and the blood shed by patriots who gave their lives that our nation might live.
White stands for purity and innocence, the ideals upon which America was founded and the hope that guides her people.
Blue represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice – the steadfast guardians of freedom.
This flag is not simply raised – it is honored! It has flown in triumph and in grief. It has led sons and daughters into battle, lifted spirits in times of trial, and draped the caskets of our fallen heroes with dignity and honor, testifying to a debt that can never truly be repaid. Wherever our flag waves – over courthouses, schools, homes, or hallowed ground – it reminds us that freedom is not free, but rather, it is purchased at great cost!
The Stars and Stripes serve as a rallying cry for all Americans. It is a symbol of freedom, democracy, and unity – the promise that though we may differ in many ways, we are bound together as one people under one flag!
To stand beneath the Stars and Stripes is to stand in the company of every patriot who came before us, and every one who will follow. True patriots stand shoulder to shoulder in its defense. They vow to protect this flag and commit to preserving the liberties it represents. To dishonor the flag is to dishonor the sacrifice of those who have defended it. But to honor the flag is to recommit oneself to the principles of freedom, justice, and unity that make America unique among all nations.
The American flag waves not just for one person, but for all who call this land their home. It is not only a symbol – it is a promise! A promise of unity, of justice, of freedom’s light passed from one generation to the next – all stitched together in red, white, and blue. It is an enduring symbol of a free people and the beacon of hope to the world. For as long as it flies, freedom will endure!
Our military service members, first responders and other patriots are all heroes. Help us celebrate these heroes – they deserve our praise and admiration.
