On July 4, 2026, the United States of America will celebrate its 250th birthday, marking two and a half centuries of freedom since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This historic milestone, known as America250 – A Quarter-Millennium of Freedom, will be more than just a single day of fireworks and parades. It will be a year-long reflection and celebration of the American spirit – our past, our present, and the future we are building together. Communities across the nation will come together to host celebrations, educational programs, and remembrance ceremonies that honor the countless Americans – patriots, pioneers, military servicemembers, first responders, builders and dreamers – who shaped our nation!
Planning for America250 began in 2016, when Congress called for a national commission to ensure this anniversary would be worthy of our history and heritage. It is intended not just as a birthday party for a nation, but as a time of reflection and renewal. It is a chance to look back with pride at the sacrifices made for liberty, to honor the contributions of all Americans who carried the torch forward, and to consider the responsibility we hold for the generations yet to come.
From the battlefields of independence to the front lines of today, active duty military members, veterans, first responders, and patriots have stood, and continue to stand, as guardians of liberty. Their courage has defended our nation, their sacrifice has preserved our way of life, and their devotion has kept the flame of freedom burning for generations to come.
The 250th anniversary reminds us of a simple but profound truth: freedom must be cherished, preserved, defended, and passed on. Just as the Founders of this great nation pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor, so too must each generation renew its commitment to the ideals of liberty and justice. It calls us to cherish our freedoms, confront our challenges, and remain united under the flag that has flown through every trial in our country’s short history. Under this flag, we remain one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Our military service members, first responders and other true patriots are all heroes. Help us celebrate these heroes – they deserve our praise and admiration.
