The United States Space Force

The United States Space Force (USSF) is the newest branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and is the space service branch of the U.S. Department of Defense. It is one of the six United States armed forces and one of eight uniformed services.
The Space Force was officially established on December 20, 2019, under the Department of the Air Force. The mission of the Space Force is to organize, train, and equip guardians to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force.
The Space Force motto is “Semper Supra” – Latin for “Always Above” – which represents constant vigilance and enduring commitment to protect the ultimate high ground.
Space is now considered a warfighting domain, and just like we defend land, sea, and air – we must now defend the high ground of space. The Space Force is responsible for:
Defending America’s interests in space.
Operating satellites for communications, GPS navigation, missile warning, and reconnaissance.
Countering threats from adversaries who might attempt to disable or exploit space-based assets.
The Space Force seal and logo pay tribute to legacy, mission, and domain. The central delta (Δ) shape has been used by military space units since 1961. It symbolizes change and innovation. It also points upward, representing ascent into the domain of space. The background represents outer space – the newest and most challenging environment for national defense. The Polaris, or North Star, symbolizes a guiding light, core values, and always being ready. And the encircling globe shows the worldwide impact of space operations.
The U.S. Space Force may be young, but its mission is deadly serious. Satellites are the backbone of our modern military – providing missile warnings, global communications, and targeting capabilities. If our adversaries can take that away, we lose our strategic edge.
The Space Force stands as a silent sentinel in orbit, ensuring the stars and stripes fly high and free – not just on Earth, but also above it.
